Discover a way of life you can only find in the Ardèche
Whether perched atop hills or nestled away, the authentic villages and towns in the Ardèche have a certain special something! Tiny streets, cobbled roads, and narrow and mysterious passageways add to the charm of our picturesque villages. Each as attractive as the other, the 20 across the department will enchant you with their charm and authenticity.
Located in the Ligne Valley in the Southern Ardèche and just a few kilometres from Vallon Pont d’Arc, the welcoming medieval town of Largentière is altogether a wondrous place, with its houses with beautiful façades lining the river, the Palais de Justice, and the Château des Évêques (Bishops’ Palace), all just 30 minutes from the hotel.
Balazuc and Vogüe, both listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” and holders of the “Villages de Caractère” (Authentic Village) label, stand proudly over the River Ardèche. Their past is visible around every corner along their narrow paved and vaulted streets, brimming with charm and bathed in the sunshine.
Meanwhile, the village of Banne is bursting with a strong personality, best exemplified by its two neighbourhoods. The first is the area around the church, with its bell tower visible from the plain below, and there’s also the area around the fortress, whose stables are now the prestigious setting for summer cultural events.
Classed as a “Village de Caractère” and built on a rocky outcrop, the village of Naves will enchant you with its medieval flair, its cobbled streets and its vaulted passageways. Don’t miss its Romanesque church and its cut sandstone bell tower.
Straddling the gushing waters of the River Beaume, the village of Labeaume is surrounded by impressive limestone cliffs into which caverns have been dug. Its traditional houses wind their way down narrow cobbled streets and small vaulted passageways, the perfect setting for strolling and living in the moment.
The village of Vinezac offers stunning 360° vistas. Visible from afar atop its green hill, it is part of the foothills of the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Natural Park, where chestnuts and beech trees make way for olive trees, vines and green oaks.
Also take the time to discover a range of other delightful villages, including Gravières, Joyeuse, Les Assions, Ribes, Payzac, or our own village of Valgorge.
